This Day in Dayton, 26 March
About 2002 Wabash Valley Trust approached the town board about acquiring historic district designation for the town. Angela Bowen asked Susan Clawson to come her office and answer questions about the buildings in town. Asked what there was about the town that made it significant besides the old homes, Susan replied that she believed the town was on the migration path and that it was settled before Lafayette itself. The Historic District designation was granted on March 26, 2003. It has never been announced in the Lafayette paper, however. About 2015 the town replaced the street signs and used brown signs to designate the historic district and blue signs for the rest of the town, but they didn’t get the historic district signs in quite the right place.
