This Day in Dayton, 13 January

On January 13, 1898, the Lafayette Home Journal reported in the Dayton items that Elliott Post 160 Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) installed officers: Isaac Place, Benjamin Regan, Sims Dibert, J. H. Crouse, James Glenn, Adam Andrews, Jeremiah Dibert, George Gifford, Tillman Paul, Clark Staley, Shannon Nicely, James Godfrey. This was the veterans organization for soldiers who fought in the North during the Civil War. “At the close of the post meeting the ladies of Dayton sprung a surprise on the old veterans by inviting them to an elegant supper.”
