This Day in Dayton, 3 February

“The Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners and the Dayton Town Board unanimously approved rezoning ordinances to make way for the $500 million automobile plant,” declared the Journal and Courier on 3 February 1987. Dayton was involved because 65 acres of the site were within the Dayton town limits. The rest was still in the county at the time. The county also signed an agreement to act as one body with the City of Lafayette to obtain easements for the road improvements. Lafayette would vote on the agreement the next day. The State was still celebrating having landed the deal by beating out Illinois and Kentucky. (“Car plant rezoning gets double OK,” Journal and Courier, 3 February 1987)
