This Day in Dayton, 27 January

On January 27, 1830, Samuel McGeorge sold 1380.76 acres of Richardville Reserve to William “Billy” Heaton, a local developer, for $4,238.93 (about $3.07 an acre) (deed filed January 27, 1830, Deed Record B, p. 82). Heaton immediately began to sell small parcels of land. The town of Wyandott, which Heaton founded, is traditionally dated from 1829 (Hatton), although the plat was not filed until April 9, 1844.
