This Day in Dayton, 22 July
The 10th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered out on July 22, 1865, at Louisville; and the 150th Infantry on August 5, 1865. The 40th Infantry was held until December 21, 1865. Each unit’s regimental flag now bore the names of the battles in which the unit had played a prominent part. With some trepidation, the survivors began their adjustment to civilian life in Tippecanoe County, including many in Dayton and Sheffield Township.
