This Day in Dayton, 10 July

The 10th Battery Light Artillery was mustered out on July 10, 1865. A light artillery battery was in charge of firing, maintaining, and moving canon and other large guns. Local men in the 10th included Daniel and George W. Boyles, David Bush, William H. Burkhalter, Joseph L. Carnahan, Jerome H. Crouse, Frank M. Douglass, Henry Haggerty, Alfred Paul, Daniel Peter, James Rodgers, Patterson Staley, Peter Smith, L. T. Strother, and William Wood. Also John Powell, Peter Burkhalter, William Wlliott, Polk Hull, and John Whiteman. Some men in the 10th Battery were transferred to the 18th Battery and mustered out with the 18th.
