This Day in Dayton, 12 June
In the June 1833 issue of the Lafayette Free-Press an announcement appeared of the arrival of the steamship Envoy in Lafayette. It arrived at the Wabash River wharf towing a keel boat and carrying freight for Dayton as well as for Lafayette and Logansport. (Kriebel, Old Lafayette, J/C, March 2, 1986). Storekeepers in Dayton, such as Samuel Favorite, David Paden, or John Heaton, probably scanned the pages of the newspaper for news of the arrival of their goods.
