This Day in Dayton, 24 May
On May 25, 2000, the Journal and Courier printed a story about a plaque installed at Dayton Elementary to honor ten-year-old Dustin L Bailey. The plaque was placed on a drinking fountain at the baseball field at the school in memory of Dustin, who was killed on March 8, 1998 when he and his cousin were playing with a gun that they didn’t know was loaded. More than 100 Little League fans and players paused to remember him. His jersey number was also retired. The memorial was made possible by funds donated by folks in Dayton and from the Dayton Parks and Recreation Department.
