This Day in Dayton, 15 November

David Meilner and Roy Hatke were honored by the Dayton Town Board for their fast action in pulling Jerry Wilcox from his wrecked car on October 29. Fumes were collecting inside the car after it struck a telephone on Indiana 38 west of Dayton. Hatke and Meilner, as first reponders, arrived at the early morning accident and removed Wilcox from his locked car. The town board issued letters praising the two for “calm and level-headed decisions.” Town Marshal Rick Earhart was quoted as saying the two had “helped out, not fearing a little involvement.” (Journal and Courier, 15 November 1983)
