This Day in Dayton, 30 October
In 1931 the interurban was discontinued. This was an electric railroad that ran along the side of what is now State Road 38. The street was gravel at the time, called the Dayton Gravel. The Interurban ran from Lafayette through Dayton to Frankfort and on to Indianapolis. The last car ran on October 31, 1931. The same year the county paved the Dayton Gravel. Both developments were a sign of the popularity of the automobile. The road became a state highway in 1933.
